NFL trade rumors: 15 players most likely to be traded at the 2021 deadline

The NFL trade deadline is almost here again. With less than week before Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. ET, who are the players most likely to be moved from their current teams?

Although it’s not exactly a hot-stove league for deals in relation to other sports, the NFL has seen more action than usual in recent years on the October-November open market in relation to the March early offseason free-agency frenzy.

The rumors this year are swirling most around one controversial big-name quarterback, but there are other notable players either being shopped or drawing interest from needy teams with the line being skewed between “buyers” and “sellers.”

Here are 15 players to watch most for being traded, starting with the hottest rumor of them all in Houston:

Deshaun Watson, QB, Texans

It’s elementary why the Texans are trying to ship out Watson while he still has high trade value. They trying to act on the uncertainty of what future league-imposed discipline may or may not come down on him following the investigation into troubling off-field allegations. The Dolphins still are set to the primary suitors, but the Panthers are also strong in the mix in the 11th hour. Should either team sense his availability won’t be in question going forward, it will part ways with the necessary multiple first-round pick compensation.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Dolphins

Should the Dolphins acquire Watson, it would make no sense to keep Tagovailoa, the 2020 first-rounder and current starter. He might be part of the deal going to Houston, or he could be sent elsewhere to a team that may not have a high-enough pick to a franchise first-rounder in 2022, such as Denver.

Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Dolphins

Ogbah has been an all-around bright spot on a Brian Flores’ defense that has grossly underachieved in 2021. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2022 and Miami likely won’t be able to afford him as he looks to cash in with the highest bidder. At 1-6, Miami needs to be selling save for considering Watson.

Allen Robinson, WR, Bears

The Browns’ Odell Beckham Jr. and the Texans’ Brandin Cooks have been mentioned more as possible moving pieces at wide receiver for different reasons. But Robinson is being wasted as a veteran target with rookie QB Justin Fields struggling. He is a free agent destined for a third NFL team next season. Chicago needs to realize it must sell and move on with Darnell Mooney as the No. 1 given Robinson won’t be in the plans in 2022. A real contender needs to think about getting him given he can line up and produce anywhere.

Andre Dillard, OT, Eagles

Jordan Mailata has taken over at left tackle opposite Lane Johnson as Dillard, the 2019 first-rounder has become a fading reserve. Philadelphia should move him to anyone that feels he can perform better as a reclamation project.

Melvin Gordon III, RB, Broncos

Denver loves rookie Javonte Williams and should let him loose as the feature back to have a more dynamic offense overall. Gordon has been OK, but he’s still an aging free agent to be in 2022. The Broncos should try to sell him hard to a RB-needy team.

Marlon Mack, RB, Colts

On the cheaper end, Mack has been openly available and would like a chance to play somewhere where Jonathan Taylor isn’t heavily featured and Nyheim Hines is the change-of-pace receiving options. Third-stringer Jordan Wilkins makes Mack easily expendable to push to a team looking for an early-down back.

Kyle Fuller, CB, Broncos

Fuller is the veteran third cornerback behind Ronald Darby and rookie first-rounder Pat Surtain II. He’s yet another pending 2022 free agent. He could have a lot more value on a true contending team.

L.J. Collier, DE, Seahawks

Like Dillard, Collier has been a disappointing first-rounder on the defensive line. He was a head-scratching early pick who hasn’t given Seattle much pass-rush production beyond three sacks last season.

Marcus Maye, S, Jets

Maye is an expensive player to keep for the rebuild and hasn’t been able to stay healthy and productive enough to compensate for the void of Jamal Adams. He would benefit from playing in another defensive scheme.

Melvin Ingram, EDGE, Steelers

The former Chargers first-round three-time Pro Bowler has given the team some good extra pass-rush help at 32, but he’s a pending 2022 free agent and some other teams have inquired about adding him as more of a regular producer.

Jamison Crowder, WR, Jets

The Jets didn’t cut Crowder before the season but have a chance to move on now with Corey Davis, Elijah Moore and Keelan Cole as the top three wideouts. He’s a free agent, too, next year and could help out another team as a reliable short-area slot.

Nick Foles, QB, Bears

The Bears might be reluctant to shop Robinson because they might feel he can still help them with Fields’ development. But there’s no reason to keep carrying Foles as a veteran No. 3 behind Andy Dalton. They’re listening to offers and Foles might find a home he likes, even as an elevated backup.

Derek Barnett, DE, Eagles

The Eagles’ second entry is another first-rounder, an older one from the 2017 draft they are bound to let walk in pending free agency given his sack-less 2021 season. Barnett has dropped off badly in the new non-wide nine scheme after having six sacks and playing well all-around in 2020. He could benefit from joining a better-tailored 4-3 team.

Will Fuller, WR, Dolphins

The Dolphins signed Fuller to a one-year deal and it didn’t take long for the 2016 first-rounder’s consistent durability issues to manifest. He would be a better-used deep threat when healthy for a variety of contenders looking for a field-stretching No. 2, led by the Browns and Packers.
