Through January 2, 2022: AKC Museum of the Dog exhibit: 9/11 Remembered: Search & Rescue Dogs

This new exhibit honors the work of search and rescue dogs during the rescue and recovery efforts on and after 9/11. You’ll also discover the history of search and rescue dogs along with highlights of the dogs that participated in the rescue and recovery efforts on 9/11. This exhibit will also display the winners from the “Salute to Search and Rescue Dogs” art contest hosted by the museum as well as feature portraits by artist Ron Burns, creator of the coffee table book, The Dogs of Ron Burns: A Tribute to the Dogs of 9/11. A free virtual tour of the exhibit is also available on the Museum’s website shortly after the exhibit’s opening. The AKC Museum of the Dog adheres to all COVID-19 and social distancing protocols. All Museum visitors over 12 years of age must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must show proof of vaccination upon arrival. October 2, 2021: 35th Annual Fur Ball Gala campaign fundraiser for the San Diego Humane Society

The evening includes a cocktail reception, live and silent auction, vegetarian meal prepared by Chef Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille and an after-party with music by Haute Chile. Well-mannered leashed dogs are invited to join you. Each year, the Fur Ball celebrates compassion for animals and the people who love them. It’s also one of the SDHS’s most important fundraisers of the year. While optimistic that the Fur Ball will be an in-person event, the SDHS will evaluate based on the safety and comfort of guests and will share additional information as the event nears. October 2-5, 2021: 2021 AHVMA Annual Conference

The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) is a group of member veterinarians and allies elevating the veterinary profession through innovation, education and advocacy of integrative medicine. October 8-10, 2021: Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo — Fall

Wag it up for the Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo, a dog friendly event held from open to close at Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA, US. Admission is $15/adult, $6/child age 4-11, and children under 3 are free. For more details, go to familypetshows.com.

October 13, 2021: ASPCA’s 2021 Virtual Humane Awards & Dog of the Year Announcement

Join the ASPCA on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 7:00pm ET for this virtual program, hosted by NBC4 News Anchor Chuck Scarborough. The evening honors people and pets from across the nation who have made outstanding contributions to animal welfare. Link to view the event here.

October 20— October 24, 2021: U.S. Dog Agility Association’s Cynosport Dog Agility World Games Championship

Top canine athletes from across the country head to Murfreesboro, Tennesee, to compete at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum. Contenders will unleash their dogs and direct them with voice and hand signals  through obstacle courses in a race against the clock, battling for the sport’s most coveted prizes, including the Grand Prix of Dog Agility World Champion title and the right to compete for $15,000 in cash prizes. Daily activities run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 24, with evening events on Saturday beginning at 6:00 p.m. COVID-19 protocols for wearing of masks and social distancing will apply.  Go to cynosport.com for current details on show day. October 22, 2021: Subaru’s 3rd Annual National Make A Dog’s Day

Dedicated to making all dogs feel loved and cared for, including dogs with special needs as part of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative, the automaker’s annual nationwide campaign to support pets in need each October. More than 600 Subaru retailers will host in-person or virtual adoption events throughout the month of October. Participating Subaru retailers will donate $100 to partnering shelters for every pet adopted at these events. Subaru is also donating $10 to the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) for each Genuine Subaru Pet-Friendly Accessory purchased through a retailer’s Subaru Parts Online website throughout the month of October. October 23, 2021: Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt Day

The annual Strut Your Mutt virtual fundraiser allows pet lovers across the country to raise funds for their favorite local shelter, rescue, or animal welfare organization. Although a primarily virtual event, many Best Friends Network Partners across the country have planned in-person, outdoor walks, so check here to see if any local groups are getting together for a Strut. Walkers can register for free at www.strutyourmutt.org to join Strut Your Mutt as individuals or members of a team. The event is not just limited to dogs and people that love them. Many cat organizations have also benefitted from being a part of Strut Your Mutt. The website provides innovative, interactive fundraising tools for walkers to share on social media and raise funds for the animal welfare group of their choice.  Also follow the fun on the Strut Your Mutt Facebook page.
