Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Available Today On Switch

A Switch port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was announced during the Nintendo Direct that aired back in September, and finally, after a little over a month of waiting, it’s available for purchase.

KOTOR was first released on the original Xbox and PC in 2003, and it was later ported to Mac, iOS, and Android devices by Aspyr Media, the studio now heading the PlayStation 5 and PC remake of the classic RPG. Due to Xbox’s overall backward compatibility support, the original version of KOTOR has been playable on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. As of today, it’s playable on Switch.

“Four thousand years before the Galactic Empire, hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith and you are the last hope of the Jedi Order,” Nintendo’s description reads. “Can you master the awesome power of the Force and save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side?”

These are the questions (but not all of them as you’ll be making a lot of choices) you’ll be answering in KOTOR, and now, thanks to the new Switch port, you can do that from the comfort of your couch or on the go.

The game will require 12 GB of space, and it’s strictly single-player. It’s an action-adventure Star Wars RPG with turn-based combat, and at the time of this writing, it’s still up for preorder for $14.99. You’ll receive 75 Gold Coins from Nintendo for preordering as well. Oddly enough, on the Switch’s Nintendo eShop, the game’s listing says today is the “estimated” release date.

Since the port’s announcement, November 11 has been the release date. The use of “estimated” makes it seem as if it might not release today, but considering Nintendo hasn’t publicly announced anything regarding that (nor has Aspyr), KOTOR will probably hit the Switch sometime later today.

While waiting for KOTOR to hit Switch, read about Aspyr’s PS5 KOTOR remake and then check out this opinion piece by one of Game Informer’s editors about how KOTOR’s biggest issue is how it plays.
