What Should I Write in a Valentine’s Day Card?

Valentine’s Day is the day we celebrate our loved ones. While it’s obviously a day to share with a romantic partner, it’s also a fun day to connect with friends and family. From a simple hand-made card to an extravagant bottle of Champagne, there are so many ways to show you care!

But sometimes it can be hard to figure out exactly what to write in a Valentine’s Day card. Whether you’re hoping a relationship is moving out of the “friendzone,” or coming up on 25 years of marriage, or whether the friendship is silver or gold . . . finding the right words to say to your Valentine can be a challenge. (Except mom. You know she’ll put every card you send in her treasure box and cherish it forever.)

Or write your own one-of-a-kind acrostic poem (Don’t be frightened by the word “poem.” Just list meaningful words to spell out your Valentine’s name or a word that is special to your relationship).

For example, for the man who’s always been by your side:

Dependable

Athletic

Disco-loving

Or for your best Galentine:

F is for our lifelong friendship

U is for all our crazy unexpected adventures

N is for our never-ending quest for the perfect Pinot

When it comes to writing a Valentine’s Day card, the best message comes straight from your heart. Short and simple. Long and flowery. No matter how you say it, just be genuine.

If you’re still at a loss for words, remember it’s the thought that counts. So, if “Happy Valentine’s Day” is all you come up with, that’s fine! It’s more important to actually send the Valentine than to fret about writing the most perfect Valentine’s Day card ever and then miss the occasion entirely. (OK, so I may be speaking from experience here . . .) Your Valentine will be so happy to know that you’re thinking of them.
