San Diego, California, USA park and square.

The west coast has attracted people from all over the world thanks to its stunning beauty both North and South, but it’s California’s sunshine that draws the most visitors each year. There is something about this state, a kind of magic, that makes it such a popular tourist destination and a place where a lot of people choose to move to. If you have plans to spend some time traveling around California in the future, here are four must-see places that need to have a place on your itinerary.

Contents

1.    Yosemite National Park

There is nothing more breathtaking than looking around you and being surrounded by natural beauty. It can be incredibly humbling and a fantastic opportunity to sit back and reflect on things in your tranquil setting. Yosemite National Park is an incredible place for this and is something you have to see for yourself at least once in your life. Make sure that you spend at least a couple of days during your trip exploring this stunning national park.

2.    San Francisco

This vibrant city has a lot to offer, which explains why it is something that is on a lot of people’s bucket lists. Getting the ferry across to Alcatraz Island and seeing the old prison there is a must for both true crime fans and history buffs alike. If you’re looking for something a bit more cheerful, you could always spend your time wandering through Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can spot some chatty sea lions (this is something kids will likely enjoy!) Seeing the Palace of Fine Arts is also something you should try to fit into a sunny afternoon, as it is a beautiful piece of architecture to behold even if the rest of the original building is no longer there. It can also look quite picturesque lit up at night.

3.   Los Angeles and Hollywood

It might not be the most beautiful place in California, but a visit to Hollywood is something that everyone should do if they are going to travel around the state. There are plenty of other things to do in this city as well other than celebrity spotting. You can enjoy some fun and games on the Santa Monica Pier, sample some great food in Venice Beach and Downtown LA. You can even enjoy a hike around Griffith Park and visit the observatory and the world-famous Hollywood sign. If you want to fly from LA to visit another city in the state rather than drive (or another location on this list if all of these inspire you), you can always use this website for LAX airport parking to keep your car safe until you need it again.

4.   Lake Tahoe

This is another one for the nature lovers out there, as well as those who enjoy water sports. There are plenty of hiking trails for you to indulge your sense of adventure, cycling routes, or you could just sit by the lakeside and soak up some of that California sunshine if you would prefer. On the border of Nevada and surrounded by mountains, it truly is the perfect place to switch off and unwind. Visiting during the winter months? While you might not want to go for a swim in the lake, there will be plenty of winter sports you can enjoy in the area, such as skiing and sleigh riding.

If you have always dreamed of traveling around California, or would just like to see a few places in the state, make sure these destinations make it onto your must-see list.
