Foster + Partners has announced it is designing a six-runway airport in Riyadh, which will be powered by renewable energy and incorporate “cutting-edge green initiatives” into its design.
The architecture studio will also create 12 square kilometres of residential and recreational facilities, retail stores and support facilities for the airport, which is the third airport it is designing in the country.
By 2030, King Salman International Airport is predicted to accommodate up to 120 million travellers, making it one of the world’s largest airports.
Other stories in the latest newsletter include the announcement of the death of Factor Fifteen founder Jonathan Gales aged 36, concerns about the carbon footprint of Herzog and de Meurons’ Museum of the 20th Century and SANAA’s completed extension of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
