National Basketball Association (NBA) legend and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley has never been one to mince words and it doesn’t seem like that fiery personality will diminish any time soon.
The Hall of Famer went on a rant during a CNBC interview earlier this week, saying that “Everybody should be vaccinated. Period.” He also remarked that “The only people who are not vaccinated are just a–holes.”
Spoken like the controversial and unabashed personality we’ve come to accept over the years!
With the coronavirus still occupying our lives, and especially with the rising rate of the Delta variant, health officials are once again concerned with the unvaccinated who have been hit the hardest in recent outbreaks. As BLACK ENTERPRISE reported recently, it’s also a major concern in the Black community as well.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) posted on its Facebook page numbers showing that Black people are being affected more by the virus than other communities and is encouraging all Black people who are unvaccinated to visit their nearest healthcare facility to get vaccinated.
“ALARMING DATA: For the first time in months, cases of COVID are on the rise. And communities of color are most affected.
- In CA, the Delta variant was responsible for 38% of new cases as of the end of June, up from 5.6% of new cases in May.
- In LA County, the Delta variant made up nearly 50% of new COVID-19 cases, up from 5% just four weeks earlier.
- At MLKCH, COVID cases are steadily on the rise.
- Over 51% of all new cases have been Black/African Americans and 42% of all new cases have been Latino/Hispanic.”
Barkley feels that major sports leagues should demand that all players be vaccinated.
“Can you imagine if one of these guys that are not vaccinated, if they get one of these players’ kids, wives, girlfriends, moms and dads sick and they die over some unnecessary conspiracy bulls—,” Barkley said. “I think that would be tragic.”
Barkley added that playing in a professional sports league is similar to having a corporate job.
“There’s s— you can’t do at work and there’s s— that have to do at work,” he said. “So every workplace has rules and I think one of the rules [should be] that guys have to be vaccinated.”
