Zeiss Prescription Lenses For Apple Vision Pro To Cost ‘At Least’ $300: Report

Apple unveiled the Apple Vision Pro, its much-awaited mixed reality headset, at the WWDC earlier this week amid much fanfare. The headset piqued the curiosity of many, and some glasses wearers were left with questions about its compatibility with prescription glasses.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman estimates that a pair of Zeiss prescription glasses for the Apple Vision Pro could cost at least $300, and could go as high as $600, “unless Apple is eating part of the cost given the already high price of the headset itself.”

Apple Vision Pro’s Zeiss Prescription Lenses: How They Work

Apple Vision Pro’s snug fit against the face makes it difficult to accommodate prescription glasses. To address this issue, Apple has partnered with Zeiss to provide Zeiss Optical Inserts that will magnetically attach to the lenses of the Vision Pro.

Zeiss Optical Inserts will be customized to match the user’s vision prescription. Apple notes that users will require a valid prescription for the inserts. The brand warns that not all prescriptions are supported, so interested buyers should check Apple’s support page before purchasing the Vision Pro.

Apple Vision Pro Features

The Apple Vision Pro uses eye tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands to navigate the interface, eliminating the need for an external controller. The headset features EyeSight which shows the user’s eyes for social interaction, while the eyes are obscured by a glowing screen in the VR mode.

The Apple Vision Pro also lets users view immersive content from entertainment providers like Disney. The headset can also be connected to a Mac via Bluetooth. The Vision Pro supports spatial audio, making the FaceTime experience even better.

Apple Vision Pro Availability

The Apple Vision Pro will be first sold in the United States when it debuts in early 2024, with plans to launch in other regions over the course of the year. Apple has implemented an age restriction, stating that Vision Pro users must be 13 years or older.

The mixed reality headset will be priced at $3,499, making it clear that the device is geared towards the enterprise sector. Considering the headset’s “Pro” suffix, we can expect Apple to release a relatively affordable version sometime in the future.
