Dezeen Showroom: designer Patricia Urquiola has developed a collection of outdoor rugs and seat covers for Spanish brand Gan, which reference knitted jumpers.
Called Mangas Outdoor, the collection includes a series of large-scale rugs and covers for modular seats and poufs, all of which were designed especially for outdoor use.
Urquiola took cues from the appearance of knitted woolly jumpers when creating the textured pieces.
Each design was handwoven by Urquiola and local artisans in India from colourful pieces of 100 per cent recycled PET, sourced from discarded plastic bottles.
“We used warm and earthy colors such as terracotta, stone grey, white and other hues that echo the natural landscape,” explained Urquiola.
“We also incorporated pops of color like periwinkle to add visual interest,” she added.
“Mangas Outdoor is an open and flexible collection that focuses on the celebration of craftsmanship, circular economy and comfort in equal parts,” said Gan.
The collection is Urquiola’s latest collaboration with Gan. The designer previously created similar collections for the brand using wool, although Mangas Outdoor marks Urquiola’s first collection of pieces intended for the outdoors.
