18 Intriguing Switch Games Shown In QUByte Connect 2021
[ad_1]
QUByte Interactive is a publisher that is certainly very busy, and undoubtedly produces some intriguing titles across platforms. It’s also a big supporter of the Switch, and its QUByte Connect 2021 showcase featured a lot of titles for the system.
We already covered the return of much loved Neo Geo Tag team fighter Rage of the Dragons, but here’s is a full-on list (with trailers) of some other Switch games unveiled in the show.
So, let’s get into it.
Contents
Project Colonies: MARS 2120 (Summer 2022)
Described as a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure with metroidvania design, it may remind you stylistically of a recent hit on Switch from Nintendo. But as an Indie effort this looks promising, no doubt with more optimisation and development underway ahead of its arrival next year. Fighting a bunch of monsters as an elite marine can certainly be fun, so we’ll certainly keep an eye on it.
Grapple Force Rena
if you see the name ‘GalaxyTrail’ and think it’s familiar, that’s because it is. This is indeed from some of the team behind Freedom Planet; in fact this was originally an experimental title on itch.io, but has now been revived and reworked as a conventional game. It looks rather fun, too, as you’ll put the grapple mechanic to work in various ways – we’ll watch out for further updates.
Wild Dogs
There’s a lot to like in this one, we reckon. With Game Boy Color-style palettes, varied playstyles, screen filling bosses and a section where a playable dog jumps into a mech, it has it all. Hopefully the end result will be as fun as the trailer.
Milli & Greg (Out Now – NA)
A classic ‘out now’ part of the broadcast, at the time of writing it is available on the North American eShop but not yet the on the European store. This is a low-priced platformer that doesn’t look shy about pushing up the level of challenge, with the gameplay perhaps looking like a blend of Super Meat Boy and Celeste. With 100+ levels it could well be worth a look.
Opus Castle (‘Soon’)
Perhaps an intriguing one if you like horror referencing actual locations, with the description stating it’s a ‘narrative based on the real tragic history of the little castle on Apa Street, located in the city of São Paulo, Brazil’. It doesn’t really look like a game to attract new players to the genre, but for fans of first-person spook-fests it could certainly be entertaining.
Be Hero
The world isn’t short of farming/breeding RPGs, but that doesn’t mean new entries in the genre can’t charm us. This looks to have a lot of familiar elements, though the story could be enjoyable – it’s “about an aspiring hero who’s late for the final battle and needs to work in a tavern in order to get back home”.
Bem Feito
Not the easiest game to figure out from the trailer, which pitches it as a surreal story of a ‘lost game’ from a retro system. Here’s the official description to add a little sense to the concept – “Bem Feito is a horror game, creepypasta, suspense, adventure and a mix of Alternate Reality Game (ARG), which uses some references from fiction and the real world together.”
Devil Inside Us
Another horror title, this time putting you into the shoes of Aughust Heylel, an exorcist with waning faith. Could be suitably creepy on a dark night with Switch in hand.
Droid Escape – ‘Soon’
A retro-styled challenging platformer in which you try to reunite Anny K. and her robot Droid 07. It looks pretty standard for the genre, with tricky manoeuvres and hazards aplenty.
Head Over Heels
This is actually a remake of a 1987 release that graced systems like the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64. Isometric puzzlers like this were popular back in the day, as you work through one room at a time trying to get past various hazards and challenges. If you enjoyed Lumo on Switch then this may be worth a look.
Herodes
Sort of like the movie Innerspace (look it up, kids), but a little more grim as you’re attempting to cure a deadly virus. It’s a shoot ’em up in someone’s guts, which could be rather fun and gross, albeit the colour palette looks rather muted.
In Extremis
Another shoot ’em up, though this time it’s a vertical scroller. This one looks pretty eye-catching as its visuals and levels seem to take some rather imaginative turns. The description says it “tries to bridge the gap between art and fun, the underground and the mainstream, the old and the new.”
Josh Journey: Darkness Totems
A colourful beat ’em up with hand-drawn visuals, it looks like this will be best enjoyed in local co-op with up to three buddies. It’ll have four different fighters, each with unique abilities, so it’ll be interesting to see how it shapes up.
My Night Job – Definitive Edition
This is an update of a 2016 release, which at the time had rather middling reviews. It’s certainly got a sense of style, though, with bright visuals and inspiration from 80s horror, it certainly could be entertaining if it’s improved upon the original.
Racco Venture
This 3D platformer definitely has promise, with a number of the trailer’s levels strongly reminding us of similar designs in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World. Though it certainly wears sources of inspiration on its sleeve, it could be a fun time – one to watch.
The Humans (Coming Soon)
This is a trilogy compilation of retro puzzle titles that drew some comparison to Lemmings in the early ’90s. As you can see in the trailer the collection includes the Game Boy version, and there’ll be some modern touches (like a save system) to help out players new to the series.
The Immortal (Out Now)
This is a slightly odd one. It is indeed out now having arrived in this week’s download update, but you can also play it in the Nintendo Switch Online NES app, so if you’re subscribed you can play it for free. Well, if you’re not on NSO or want to own a digital copy, it’s available on the eShop in North America and Europe.
Things That Bounce and Explode
It rather looks like Breakout on steroids, with a lot of style and colour added. There will be RPG elements too, with different types of weapons and upgrades to earn.
That’s your lot, phew! Let us know in the comments which of these games stand out to you.
