Ingredients in Stromboli

Crust – Use a store-bought crust or make your own pizza dough for a delicious stromboli.

Sauce – Use your favorite marinara sauce or make it from scratch. You can also use pizza sauce.

Toppings – Classic pizza toppings like pepperoni, salami, ham, and mozzarella cheese work great in stromboli. You can also add other cheeses like cheddar or parmesan.

Vegetables – Add your favorite pizza veggies like mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, black olives, or jalapenos. Sauté them first to make sure they’re not too moist.

How to Make Stromboli

  1. Roll out the pizza dough.
  2. Spread it with marinara and add toppings and cheese. (For best results, let the pizza dough come to room temperature before using.)
  3. Roll the stromboli into a log, brush with egg wash, and bake (per recipe below) until the top is golden brown.
  4. Slice and serve! Buon appetito!

Leftovers?

Keep leftover stromboli in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat portions in the microwave. Freeze leftover stromboli by wrapping the slices in plastic wrap and then putting them in a zippered bag. They’ll be thawed and ready to eat or reheat by lunchtime!

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (approximately 12″ x 16″).

  • Spread the marinara sauce over the pizza dough, leaving a 1-inch border all the way around and a 3-inch border at the long side furthest from you.

  • Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheese over the marinara sauce, then add the ham, salami, and pepperoni. Finish with remaining ½ cup cheese.

  • Roll up the pizza dough tightly, being careful not to push out the toppings. Stop just before reaching the end.

  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg, water, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Brush the mixture over the pizza dough where the edges will meet, then pinch them together.

  • Place the stromboli, seam side down, on the prepared baking sheet with the seal facing down and brush with the egg wash.

  • Bake for 24-28 minutes until golden brown and slightly puffed. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Change the toppings to your favorite pizza toppings. Be sure to cook any vegetables.
Stromboli can be brushed with melted butter or garlic butter in place of oil.
