Sony PlayStation 5 Reaches 40 Million Units Sold: A Phenomenal Achievement

Sony recently announced a remarkable milestone in its gaming console sales. The company has successfully sold 40 million units of the PlayStation 5 worldwide since its initial release in November 2020.

The PlayStation 5 achieved a groundbreaking feat by reaching 10 million units sold within just 8 months after its launch in July 2021. This unprecedented success surpassed the sales performance of all previous PlayStation consoles, making the PS5 the fastest-selling gaming console in the company’s history.

Surpassing the 30 Million Milestone

Not content with a single record, Sony continued its meteoric rise in the gaming market by reaching the 30 million sales mark in December 2022. This marked a significant milestone, underscoring the console’s enduring appeal and acceptance among gamers worldwide.

Comparison with Past PlayStation Consoles

To put the PS5’s achievement into perspective, let’s compare it to the sales figures of previous PlayStation consoles. By early 2022, Sony had shipped over 117 million units of the PlayStation 4 and approximately 157 million units of the PlayStation 2 as of 2013.

While the PlayStation 4 took 6 years to reach 100 million units sold, the PlayStation 5 has accomplished nearly half of this milestone in less than 3 years, hinting at the possibility of reaching the coveted 100 million mark at an even faster pace.

Overcoming Supply Challenges

Despite its phenomenal success, the PlayStation 5 faced supply issues initially, largely due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Sony has worked tirelessly to stabilize supply chains and ensure sufficient inventory to meet the demand. Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, expressed his gratitude to the gaming community for their patience during this challenging period.

Exciting Promotions to Boost Sales

In its pursuit of sustaining momentum, Sony has introduced various promotions to boost PS5 sales. One such initiative includes offering an enticing discount of ₹7,500 on the PlayStation 5 disc version in India from July 25 to August 7.

Interested buyers can take advantage of this special promotion by purchasing the discounted PlayStation 5 from various e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Reliance, Croma, and Vijay Sales. The discounted price will also be applicable at select retailers, as stated by Sony India.

Please take note that the official price of the Digital Edition of the console will remain unchanged, and the price reduction will only apply to the standard disc edition of the PS5.
