Apple Self-Service Repair program now covers the new Apple iPhone 14 series, the M2-based Apple MacBook Air, and the M2-powered MacBook Pro laptops. The company is also offering repairs for the True Depth camera and speaker repairs to certain iPhone and Mac desktops in select regions.

Apple launched the rather controversial Self-Service Repair program after receiving a lot of flak for being anti-repair. Now the company is actively adding newly launched and even older devices to the program. Let’s look at the latest developments, which could help some users.

iPhone 14 and M2 MacBooks Now Eligible For Apple Self-Service Program

New Apple iPhone 14 series, M2 MacBook Laptops, And Other Devices Now Eligible

The Apple Self-Service repair program is expanding to cover even more devices. The company has now included the iPhone 14 series, the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and the 14″ and 16″ M2 MacBook Pro.

Additionally, Apple is extending support for True Depth camera and speaker repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups as well as Mac desktops with the Apple M1 chip. However, this facility and the devices eligible will be limited to the U.S., Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.

Now that the aforementioned devices are eligible for Apple’s program, users who are comfortable with performing DIY repairs and servicing their Apple devices themselves can order genuine Apple parts, tools, and repair manuals.

As part of the program, Apple asks users to first study and understand the device. Thereafter, the company charges a small fee to send out repair kits that involve necessary tools, genuine spares, and repair manuals. It is important to note that only a few components can be replaced.

Apple Makes System Configuration Process On iPhone Repairs Free

Apart from expanding the Self-Service Repair program, Apple is now making the System Configuration process on iPhone repairs free. As expected the process will be available only to Self Service Repair users and members of the Apple repair program.

The name could be a little misleading primarily because the System Configuration process is essentially Apple’s way of ensuring the devices being repaired have genuine parts, primarily sourced from the company.

The System Configuration process includes a tool that is used to verify and validate or authenticate displays, batteries, Touch ID or Face ID, and camera repairs on iPhones with genuine Apple parts. Previously, users who performed the DIY repairs had to contact Apple support to complete the process.

Moving forward, users can place their repaired devices in Diagnostic mode and then follow the screen prompts to complete their System Configuration. This will ensure that the iOS does not throw weird security prompts and disable features such as Face Unlock.
