Xiaomi has showcased a prototype of its Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2023. The company’s new wireless augmented reality glasses are lightweight and feature a “retina-level” display.
Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition: Features
Xiaomi’s new AR headset is powered by a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chipset, which is also featured in Meta’s Quest Pro headset. The device can connect wirelessly to the phone, and uses the company’s proprietary communication link with a purported low latency of 50ms.
The AR headset is relatively lightweight as it is made from carbon fiber and magnesium-titanium alloy. The headset weighs in at 126 grams, and is equipped with a custom silicon-oxygen anode battery.
Moving on to the displays, Xiaomi’s AR headset features a pair of microOLED screens that are connected to a pair of light-guiding prisms for a clearer image. The glasses support a peak brightness of 1,200 nits.

Additionally, the device includes a blackout mode for better immersion, thanks to its electrochromic lenses that will block the outside world. There’s a transparent mode as well, which integrates both real and virtual elements.
The Xiaomi AR headset uses the Mi Share app to allow users to stream YouTube or TikTok videos. The device goes beyond mere streaming, as it includes advanced hand-tracking which lets users reach out to a screen to navigate around the interface. It can also let you manipulate objects in the real world, as demonstrated in a concept video which shows a user turning off a lamp via the glasses.
Xiaomi AR Glasses: When Will It Arrive?
The concept of Xiaomi’s new AR glasses sounds great in theory. However, it remains to be seen how it will fare in the real world, if and when it launches. Although the company states that it will “work closely with developers to expedite the arrival of AR,” the device will likely need some tweaks before it makes its way to the public.
